RED JONAPRINCE

Red Jonaprince is a striking, deep-red sport of the Jonagold apple known for its firm, crisp texture and juicy, aromatic flavor. Its flavor is a delicious balance of sweetness and tartness, with a rich, honeyed quality that becomes smoother and sweeter after the apples have been stored for a period of time.
Red Jonaprince is excellent for fresh eating and snacking, but its firm flesh also makes it a versatile apple for pies, tarts, crisps, applesauce, salads, cooking, and juicing.
It generally ripens in early to mid-September, several weeks earlier than its Jonagold parent, although the exact harvest date varies by growing region. One of its most distinctive qualities is its exceptionally dark red color, with the skin often becoming almost completely red—even on fruit growing in the shade.
Red Jonaprince was discovered as a natural mutation of Jonagold in an orchard in Weert, Netherlands, in 1994, and was selected for its intense color, firmer flesh, and excellent flavor. It is also an excellent storage apple, with its flavor and texture improving during several months in storage, allowing it to be enjoyed well into the winter.
