SUMMER RAMBO

RAMBO_edited.png

Rambo is an apple prized for its rich, aromatic flavor and tender, juicy texture. The flesh is greenish-white, crisp and juicy when fresh, with a mild sweet-tart flavor.

Rambo is an excellent all-purpose apple that can be enjoyed fresh but is especially well suited for cooking and baking, making good pies, sauces, and other cooked apple dishes; it can also be used for cider.

It is generally a fall to early-winter apple, ripening around September or October, depending on the growing region.

Rambo is one of America's oldest heritage apples, with records dating back to at least 1817, when it was widely grown in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Its exact origin is uncertain, although tradition connects the variety to Peter Gunnarsson Rambo, a Swedish immigrant who arrived in the American colonies in the 1600s.

The apple is also known by several historic names, including Bread and Cheese, Romanite, and Seek-No-Further, and it was once a popular apple in old-fashioned American orchards.
