GALA
Gala is one of the most popular apple varieties in the world, prized for its crisp, juicy texture and sweet, mild flavor, often described as fruity with a subtle pear-like or floral quality. It has low acidity, making it a particularly approachable apple for fresh eating and snacking.
Gala is also a versatile apple for salads, applesauce, cooking, pies, muffins, and other baked goods, although it is especially well suited to eating fresh.
Depending on the growing region, Gala generally ripens from late August into early September. Gala originated in New Zealand in the 1930s from a cross between Golden Delicious and Kidd's Orange Red and was introduced commercially in the 1960s.
