AUVIL EARLY FUJI
Auvil Early Fuji is an early-ripening strain of the popular Fuji apple, known for its large size, crisp texture, and exceptionally sweet, juicy flavor. Its flavor is low in acidity with delicious notes of honey and citrus, giving it a refreshing sweetness while retaining the classic character of a Fuji.
Auvil Early Fuji is especially good for fresh eating and snacking, but it is also an excellent all-purpose apple for pies, baking, desserts, salads, sauces, and cooking.
It typically ripens in early to mid-September, around September 10–15 in many growing regions, which is approximately five to six weeks earlier than standard Fuji. One of its most special qualities is that it offers many of the desirable characteristics of a traditional Fuji—including its sweetness, crispness, attractive red coloring, and good flavor—much earlier in the season.
Auvil Early Fuji was discovered by Washington apple grower Grady Auvil and is also known as Fuji 216; the variety was patented in 1997. Because it ripens so much earlier than standard Fuji, it is particularly valuable in regions where growers want to offer a Fuji-type apple during the early fall harvest season.
